But before you try it, let’s dig deeper into this game and find out what’s so interesting about it.
The Final Overs – VR Cricket Gameplay
The Final Overs – VR cricket has a very user-friendly gameplay. It starts quickly with no annoying logos or advertisements in the start.
When you start the game, you find yourself in a cozy dressing room that imitates the usual dressing rooms for cricket teams. You will see drawers with gloves and knee pads scattered on the floor. Right in front of you, there will be a big blue screen containing all important match settings.
The user interface is as simple as they come. However, it might have some extra details that may confuse a newbie, but a cricket fan with a knack for cricket games will get going rather easily.
Here are the options that you will find on the UI screen:
Match options:
There are a variety of options here that will help you set up a match. These options include:
Match Difficulty: You can select the difficulty level from here as per your expertise. If you are a beginner, you should start with the easy mode.
LHB/RHB: Here you can choose your preferred hand for batting. It will help set the field accordingly.
Opponent team color: For some reason, the game doesn’t have official team options. But worry not because you can select the opponent’s jersey color that matches your preference for the opposite team. For example, if you want to play against Australia, you might want to choose yellow.
Stadium: The currently has five different stadiums where you can play and triumph in VR cricket games. Each stadium offers a unique elegance than the other. And as mentioned earlier, the stadiums also have their own set of challenges. Take, for example, Night Stadium. This stadium provides a turning track and is a great help for spinners.
Quick Match: If you want a short, hyper-casual experience of a few minutes, you can opt for a 3, 5, or 10-over match via this option.
T20 (Twenty-Twenty): The T20 mode is perhaps the most played format in The Final Overs – VR Cricket. The reason is obvious: T20 cricket is truly an undying sensation. In this mode, you will have twenty overs to chase a specific target assigned to you by the system.
Join Discord: You can join the Discord community of the game with just one click from the menu and chat directly with the developers.
ODI (One-day International): One-day international (ODI) cricket is a legendary format of game that still lingers on despite many challenges. Just like the T20 mode, you get to chase a specific target here, but you will have fifty overs to do so. Your patience and perseverance shall determine your fate here!
Local Multiplayer: This newly introduced mode lets you share your VR cricket experience with your peers as well. In this mode, your peers can bowl at you right from the mobile screen rather than AI bots. According to game developers, Mixeal Studios, cricket, besides being a game of passion, is a social experience that brings people of all ages, ethnicities, and origins together. Hence, they wanted to enable this option in VR as well.
Stats: The game UI also offers you multiple stat screens where you can see which player is dominating the world. It also shows you your performance in a comprehensive manner. In the stats, you will be able to see how you are performing against certain bowlers at what rate you have been scoring runs in the game, and in what format.
Release notes: The release notes board contains all the latest updates that developers are doing in the game.
That’s almost all of it for The Final Overs – VR Cricket gameplay. Now, let’s see how you can start a match in the game.
How to start a match in The Final Overs – VR Cricket
I hope now you have a good idea about the options available in the game menu. These options are easily understandable and a cricket game geek should easily start a match.
However, if anyone finds it difficult, I will explain the process of starting a match in the game.
First of all, what you have to do is select a difficulty option that suits your expertise. If you are a beginner, you should start your career easily because it has a ball landing pointer by default. It is also easier to smash boundaries in this mode than other ones.
The physics is not complex but rather simple in easy mode.
After selecting difficulty, please proceed to selecting your hand preference. Whichever hand you choose, AI will place the fielders accordingly.
Once you select hand preference, choose a jersey color of your opponent’s team. There are currently six colors that represent major cricket-playing nations. If you want to play a high-voltage India-Pakistan cricket match in VR, you might want to choose a blue or green color, based on what team you prefer to play from.
When you are done with selecting a jersey color, you can select a venue for the match. There are four stadiums from which you can make your preference.
The Final Overs – VR Cricket stadiums
Default stadium
This is the default stadium in the game. Interestingly, it also goes by the name of default. Although I think it could use a name similar to that of Melbourne Cricket Ground because guess what, it exactly looks like that!
However, it ain’t as bouncy as one would expect from the MCG pitch. The boundaries are also smaller here. The stadium has an amazing outlook with neon lights on the stands. The crowd cheers on every boundary and wicket… What else could one ask for?!
Night Stadium
This is my favorite stadium in The Final Overs. It aptly reflects that warm, cozy feel of playing under lights and has wider boundaries than default. That makes it very challenging sometimes to chase a target of above 180 in a T20. Another reason for that is the pitch in the Night Stadium supports spinners greatly and it won’t be easy to smash them for boundaries!
Lords Cricket Ground
Yeah, you read that right. That’s our favorite Home of Cricket – The Lord’s Cricket Ground – in The Final Overs!
This may not look the same as the Lord’s. But the creators have done a great job in giving fans a perfect opportunity to feel what it is like to be in the middle of Lord’s track and face fierce bowlers with their deadly swinging deliveries!
Habibi Cricket Ground
Assalam-o-Alaikum, Ya Habibi!
If you are a cricket fan, you must know about cricket grounds in the United Arab Emirates. So, I’ll leave it to you to guess the name of the stadium this Habibi Cricket Stadium in The Final Overs is inspired from.
It’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium — only this one is more grassy and less dried up!
In my opinion, this is the most aesthetic place to play cricket in almost all of the VR cricket games right now. It feels great to be in the middle here. However, the pitch here is bouncy and bowlers tend to be skiddy. Perhaps because the track has a layer of green grass.
So, beware of those deadly bouncers!
Mixeal says there are more stadiums to come in the future so I’m very excited to see what they bring more on the table!
Final Words: Is The Final Overs – VR Cricket worth playing?
Have you ever wanted to feel that adrenaline running through your veins while chasing a huge target in a T20 match? If your answer is yes, then The Final Overs – VR Cricket is worth playing for you!
I know this game is often compared with iB cricket. But while it is true that iB Cricket has more player animations and sophisticated gameplay, I never felt the realism of cricket in that game. iB is excellent but perhaps it’s more for fun playing while The Final Overs – VR Cricket is a challenging game that doesn’t go easy on you and makes you work hard to win matches.
As far as the graphics are concerned, I think both are almost the same. And I am sure with the advent of devices like Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro, the graphics will only improve. I loved the aesthetics of stadiums in The Final Overs. The creators have done a great job on that front.
So, to answer your question in the conclusion: Yes, The Final Overs – VR Cricket is a completely worth playing option. It is an unputdownable game once you get going!
